I'm Elske Doets, and I've been intrigued by travel since I was five. Plenty of people are, far fewer are able to find and arrange it to perfection. My first attempt was a travel brochure I wrote in kindergarten, in 1977.
My father, Jan, gave me the virus. In the 1960s he was developing European tourism from scratch, chartering Dakotas out of Amsterdam for exclusive holidays to Mallorca. I grew up watching him build journeys other people only dreamed of.
I entered the travel industry at fourteen, and since 2001 have run my own company. Its foundation, Doets Reizen, was established in 1981 and specialises in tailor-made travel to the USA, Canada, Japan, China and the Nordics.
